TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera is set to distribute rambutan seedlings to farmers in the province under the Special Area for Agricultural Development program.
Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan said the P1.7 million worth fruit seedling distribution project aims to boost the High Value Crops Program in the Philippine Rural Development Program areas, namely Tanudan, Pinukpuk, and Tabuk City.
The project is expected to push the province’s fruit industry that is now a potential income source among farmers.
Under the project, grafted rambutan seedlings from the accredited Malabanan Fruit Farm in Batangas are introduced to the province’s fruit industry, Bakilan said. The seedlings are treated and cultured to be free from virus.
Certified as “proto-type variety”, these seedlings bear the qualities of the mother-tree carrying the same taste, yield, and resiliency.
