BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office has launched the Oplan Pera sa Basura program for school year 2022-2023 last Oct. 5.
The Oplan Pera sa Basura, which will run until September 2023, aims to reduce the volume of garbage in Bontoc, instill proper waste management among school children, and promote cooperation among school children towards a common goal, which is to reduce waste in their schools and the municipality as a whole.
The program is pursuant to Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 provides the policy of the state in adopting a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management program that ensures the protection of public health and the environment.
After the final weighing and recording of recyclable wastes, the winners for each cluster shall receive a cash prize of P12,000; P9,000; and P7,000 for the first, second, and third prizes, respectively.
The LGU will coordinate with junk shop operators to purchase recyclable materials from participating schools. – Christy Mae Che-es
