A 12-hour power outage due to two broken poles whose lines were snagged by a truck along Loakan Road resulted in a 12-hour power interruption affecting four barangays in Baguio on May 23.

The barangays affected were the whole of Scout Barrio, Loakan Proper, parts of Poliwes, and parts of Loakan-Liwanag.

The power interruption started at 9:15 a.m. and was restored at 9:25 p.m.

Beneco Network  Services Department Manager Ramel Rifani said the cost of damage is about P90,000 but they have yet to compute revenue loss due to the 12-hour outage.

Rifani said Beneco is awaiting the incident report from the Baguio City Police Office before the power utility company and the operator and driver will discuss the latter’s payment for the damage on the poles.

Rifani said the truck has long been traversing Loakan Road going to the Baguio City Economic Zone but this is the first time the driver encountered such incident.

He said they will also await report from BCPO on whether the cable wires owned by Globe and PLDT were too low or the width of the road increased owing to the recent asphalt overlay conducted at the area where the incident occurred.

Other unscheduled power interruptions that occurred that day are parts of Pucsusan, parts of Outlook Drive in Baguio City, Tuding, Ucab, parts of Loakan, parts of Gumatdang, parts of Poblacion in Itogon due to removal of fallen tree branch; cut of secondary jumper of transformer at upper Pinget, parts of Lower Rock Quarry, City Camp Central, and MRR Queen of Peace. – Rimaliza A.
