The Cacao Growers and Processors of Benguet Baguio Federation (CGPBBF) convened for the first Benguet Cacao Conference to strengthen the industry.
Eighty cacao farmers from the 13 municipalities participated in the two-day conference.
Former governor Cresencio Pacalso, adviser of the CGPBBF, emphasized to the members the importance of commitment in the success of the group’s undertakings.
“As a member of the federation, part of (your obligation) is commitment to do what is best for us,” he said.
Nelson Palispis, CGPBBF president motivated the farmers to establish their own nursery, either per association or per municipality to meet the demand of the growing cacao industry in the province.
Eva Ritchelle Padua, founder of the federation, shared market potentials and benefits of cacao.
Rolando Renegado, Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Cacao Regional Focal Person, assured the agency’s support to the cacao industry in the region.
He said the DA will provide interventions and support as long as the federation submits proposals.
For the past years, the DA has been supporting cacao farmers through provision of seedlings, fertilizers, and farm tools.
During the conference, cacao by-products like soap, vinegar, wine, cacao powder, tablea, chocolate spread, chocolate drinks, and chocolate bars were showcased.
The activity was spearheaded by the CGPBBF in partnership with the DA, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, and Benguet provincial offices. – Press release
