BONTOC, Mountain Province – Two barangays in the municipality are beneficiaries of P8 million worth of projects from the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflicts (NTF-Elcac).

Municipal Government Assistant Department Head, Engr. Renante Kanongkong, of the Municipal Engineering Office, said the projects include the improvement and construction of the a barangay access road and expansion of level 2 Mainit potable water system in Barangay Mainit and the opening and concreting of Chumayaw-Abyos farm-to-market road in Barangay Dalican.

Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Lourdes Claire Peel of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Mountain Province said the projects are funded under the Barangay Development (SBDP) downloaded to local government units as a development package for barangays that have been cleared of the influence of the New People’s Army.

After the discussion on slippage, material testing, and time suspension led by Local Government Operations Officer 2, Engr. Ivy Rose Khayad of the DILG-MP, the contractors, DILG-MP representatives, Mountain Province Police Provincial Office, 54th Infantry Magilas Battalion, Philippine Army, Bontoc Municipal Police Station, Dalican Punong Barangay Reynald Waking and Mainit Punong Barangay Johnson Tangchor expressed their commitment.

Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr., assured the full support of the Municipal Engineering Office for the successful implementation of the projects.

The mayor said the municipal government will continue striving towards an insurgency-free municipality for its people to enjoy a safer and more progressive community. – Christy Mae Che-es
