BONTOC, Mountain Province – Three private schools in this capital town received sports equipment from the local government unit through the Local Youth Development Office on Dec. 5.

The Saint Vincent’s School, Inc.-High School Department is a recipient of two pieces of a soccer ball and one set of goal nets.

The All Saints Mission School and Xijen College received the same sports equipment. They received one volleyball, one basketball, and one volleyball net each.

The items were turned over by Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr., and Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr. to the recipients.

Tudlong encouraged the recipients, especially the students, to make use of the sports equipment provided to them to hone their skills in sports.

He also reminded the recipients to take good care of the sports equipment provided to them so more students would benefit from using it.

Under the Local Government Code, the LGUs provide supplementary funding support to public basic education because they have access to a sustainable source of financial resources that are earmarked for the basic education subsector, the Special Education Fund. However, private schools are not covered, which is why the LGU is also looking at the needs of private schools in the municipality. This forms part of the roadmap of the present administration which is Enlangakha: Achieving the Vision for a Dynamic Bontoc. One of its pillars is empowering communities, which covers strengthening support to your development and education. –  Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
