The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided assistance to 3,380 families in the region.

The aid is under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Livelihood Assistance Grants (LAG), a financial assistance granted to families whose livelihoods were affected by the implementation of the community quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 1,639 families from the municipalities of Lubuagan, Pinukpuk, Tanudan, and Tabuk City in Kalinga and Bakun, Bokod, Kabayan, Kibungan, and Itogon in Benguet qualified to receive their financial assistance amounting to P10,000 to P15,000 each.

“We are grateful of this livelihood assistance, especially for us who are in need. I will use it to put up a sari-sari store, and my income will go to the cost of my children’s education and for our family,” said Andrea Sad-ang, one of the LAG beneficiaries from Tabuk City.

Before the payout, DSWD staff members orientated the beneficiaries on the purpose of the grant, business processing, liquidation of provided funds, and monitoring of each provided projects, as well as clarification of concerns.

Another round of simultaneous payout will be conducted until the end of May for the remaining 1,741 beneficiaries of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Abra, Apayao, Baguio City, and other municipalities of Kalinga and Benguet. – Babble Mae Gorio
