BANGUED, Abra  – Thirty-nine individuals have each donated 450 to 500 cubic centimeter of blood during the mobile blood donation drive in celebration of the 2024 Labor Day in the province.

Provincial Department of Health Head, Dr. Lilibeth Martin said a total of 44 individuals submitted themselves for blood donation, but only 39 successfully donated.

The others were deferred for reasons such as having cough and colds, medications, recent blood donation, and smoking.

“Generally, napintas ti turnout na daytoy activity tayo. Pagyamanan tayo dagitoy blood donors ket sapay kuma saan nga daytoy ti maudi nga blood donation tayo nga mai-conduct. We encourage also other agencies to donate tapno ti kasta ket adda blood adequacy tayo ditoy probinsya ti Abra,” she said.

The collected blood will help augment blood supply, especially during emergency care and other lifesaving interventions towards reducing mortality, and improving healthcare services.

Martin hopes to lessen deferrals in future blood donation drives to maximize the yield towards sufficient blood supply.

The activity led by the Philippine Red Cross-Abra was in partnership with Department of Labor and Employment Abra,  Provincial Department of Health, the 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police, and other private health institutions.

DOLE-Abra Head Christopher Tugadi thanked all partners for the successful conduct of the mobile blood donation drive as part of the activities of the first provincial Labor Day celebration.

“To the team, thank you ti kadda yo and I hope that the result na daytoy nga blood letting ket adu talaga ti matulungan na. We hope that upcoming activities, we will invite you again for the same activity,” he said. – Jamie Joie Malingan
