Several thoroughfares in the central business district will be temporarily closed on July 2 for the Sang-atan Baguio Bike Festival.

Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Lake Drive, Perfecto Street, Harrison Road, and Jose Abad Santos Drive on the said date from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., based on Executive Order 80, s. 2023 issued by Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong.

The public is advised to take alternate routes when driving to the CBD or leave their vehicles at home and take public transportation if planning to stroll around the same area on Sunday.

The mayor’s order stated temporary closure of the roads is necessary to ensure safety and smooth execution of one of the event highlights called the “Hari ng Ahon Criterium Race” – a series of cycling challenges along different routes leading to Baguio City from the neighbouring towns.

The Sang-atan: Baguio bike Festival, a co-sponsored event of the city government, aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, sustainable transportation as well as environmental preservation.

The Baguio City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit will designate appropriate rerouting schemes and safety measures for the road closures.

The event commenced on June 3 with an opening program held at Burnham Park in celebration of World Bicycle Day.

The city government started obser-ving World Bicycle Day in 2018 with simple activities spearheaded by different cycling groups.

The City Council also passed a city resolution declaring every June 3 as Bicycle Day in the city. – Jessa Mardy P. Samidan
