The city government extended assistance to 5,034 individuals reportedly afflicted with the Covid-19 during the first quarter of this year.

City Social Welfare and Development Office Officer-in-Charge Liza Bulayungan said among the assistance given to Covid-19-afflicted individuals were psychological first aid with the assistance of partner offices, such as the City Health Services Office and the Outstanding Women Leaders.

She said some of the families of the afflicted individuals were also given food packs and other support services like financial assistance.

Bulayungan said the provision of psychological first aid is done to ensure that the Covid-19 patients and their families are ready for their temporary separation as the sick will have to be isolated in the health facilities.

She said family food packs were also given because most of the families were not ready for the implementation of the granular lockdowns in their places  and since they are qualified to receive such assistance based on city government guidelines.

She said the assistance to Covid-19-afflicted individuals will continue as cases are still being recorded on a daily basis, although the situation is now manageable due to the low number of cases.

She said social workers are ready for any eventuality in the coming months with the projected surge in cases caused by more transmissible variants of the virus.

Health authorities warned of possible surge in Covid-19 cases in the coming weeks because of the numerous gatherings in various parts of the country due to the campaign period. – PIO release
