LAGAWE, Ifugao – A total of 5,775 families from this capital town were given 25 kilos each of rice funded through the Bayanihan Grant for Cities and Municipalities (BGCM) to ease the impact of the coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Susan Gallangi said the aid comprises the third round of food assistance to Lagawe residents.

Gallangi said the local government received more than P9 million – equivalent to one month Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of the municipality – P7M of which was allotted by the LGU for food assistance; P5,544,000 was spent for the purchase of the sacks of rice, while P1,294,750 will be used for the LGU’s fourth round of assistance to families with six or more members.

She said P161,250 was given as cash assistance to Barangay Olilicon.

“This is where our taxes go and every family deserves a share,” Mayor Martin Habawel, Jr.  said.

The BGCM is a one-time financial assistance equivalent to one month IRA share of cities and municipalities that should be used exclusively for Covid-19-related programs, projects, activities, and expenses. – Marcelo B. Lihgawon
