As part of the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, a tree planting and growing activity continues to be implemented in Sitio Dalipey, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.
Barangay Tacadang has a budget of P1.3 million for the purchase of seedlings, nursery preparation, soil preparations, and operations and maintenance under the NGP for 2021 to 2023.
DENR targets to plant 52 hectares at sitios Baukok and Bilig, which host two of Tacadang’s water reservoir and main area for tree plantation.
DENR said the activity aims to reduce poverty; implement sustainable management of natural resources; promote food security; environmental stability and biodiversity conservation; promote public awarenes and instill social and environmental consciousness; and enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation.
It started in June 2021 where 62,000 trees were planted, including pine trees, mahogany, and narra; and fruit-bearing trees like cacao and rambutan.
To ensure the planted trees are growing, the DENR-NGP team monitored planted trees from January to March.
