HINGYON, Ifugao – The local government unit has started accepting applicants for the Special Program for the Employment of Students this summer.

Mayor Geraldo Luglug informed barangay officials that 92 slots are available with seven slots each for the 12 barangays and eight slots to be assigned at the municipal hall.

Applicants should be poor but deserving students who are 18 to 30 years old at the time of application; must have obtained a general passing average during the last school year for high school students and last or first semester attended for college students; and the parents’ combined annual net income after tax must not exceed the regional annual poverty threshold of P149,442 for the preceding year as determined by the National Economic and Development Authority.

Luglug requested the barangay officials to select beneficiaries in their communities based on the guidelines.

Successful applicants will be required to submit four copies of needed documents at the Public Employment Service Office.

“Please ensure the completeness of the documents before submission,” the mayor said.

The SPES is a youth employment-bridging program led by the Department of Labor and Employment to provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced or would-be displaced workers during summer and/or Christmas vacation or any time of the year to augment the family’s income to help ensure that beneficiaries are able to pursue their education. The DOLE and the employing entity provide counterpart for the salaries of the student workers. – Marcelo B. Lihgawon
