Five members of the Baguio YMCA-Kaitagi Judo Team won seven gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals in the recent 2022 All Women’s Martial Arts Festival at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila on Nov. 14.
These players along with other Baguio athletes also competed in the Munting Judoka Cup on Nov. 12 and 13 with eight gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals in the Muntinlupa Invitational Cup at the Muntinlupa Coliseum.
In the All Women’s Martial Arts Fest, Analyn Diño of Pines Montessori School won gold in the under 52-kilogram while Meagan Alyssa Motilla of Educare College Elementary Dept. also won gold in the 63-kg.
Their teammates from the Baguio YMCA-KJT, Mikeighla Louise de Vera of Mount Carmel Montessori and Natalie Gaspar of University of Baguio Junior High, won a silver medal each; while Angielee Tindaan of Lindawan National High School won a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the Baguio YMCA-KJT also won eight gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals in individual and team events when they saw action in the Muntinlupa Invitational Cup.
Gold medalists in their respective weight classes were Natalie Gaspar, Mark David Calingayan, and Skyler Martin (both in two weight categories), all of UB, including Juan Gael Javier Alberto VII of UB Science High.
Other gold medalists were Jan Samuel Diño of Pines Montessori Schooland Jammil Bien Lorenzo of BCNHS.
Silver medalists were Mikeighla Louise de Vera of Mount Carmel Montessori, Aljen Josh Colintas of UBJHS, Alexyz Aeon Allan of Baguio Patriotic High School, Aeon Lance Kim of Saint Louis University Laboratory JHS, Juan Gael Javier Alberto VII of UBSHS, Mark Francis Quirimit of UB, and Mack Jhiro Calingayan of UBSH, who also won a bronze medal.
Bronze medalists were Megan Jane dela Peña of UBSHS, Rhenzo Wryxter Apilado of SLULJHS, and Leerenz Tindaan of the University of the Cordilleras.
In the team event, De Vera, Gaspar, A. Tindaan, Dela Peña, Motilla, and Martin clinched the gold medal; while the team of L. Tindaan, Lorenzo, Quirimit, Wright Lonogan, Calingayan, Earl Gangan, and Kim won bronze medal.
The athletes were supervised by coaches Raquel Salinas, Sharon Kayebelle Diño, and Francine Rillera with Wilfredo Diño as the training head coach. The other coaches are George Borja of UB and Leo Santeco. – Harley F. Palangchao
