Champions in the 42-kilometer and 24-km. categories for male and female in the Tawid Mountain Marathon (TMM) on June 11 in Bontoc, Mountain Province will be given free slots in the The North Face (TNF) Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival.

Organizers of the Tawid Mountain Ma-rathon said the event is in partnership with the TNF Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival on Nov. 2 to 5, allowing the latter to give slots for the top podium finishers of the homegrown event.

“So, for aspiring podium finishers, train hard and we wish you well,” the organizers said.

Running enthusiasts are set to converge for this year’s staging of the Tawid Mountain Marathon featuring 42-km. marathon trail, 24-km. trail, 12-km. trail and 6-km. trail for 13-year-old and 18-year-old, who will go through the scenic mountain trails of the municipality.

Aside from the TNF, the event is also one of the qualifying races of the Philippine Trail Running Championship.

Trail runners will pass through rice terraces, lakes, plateaus, ridges and other breath-taking landscapes such as an overview of the Maligcong rice fields at Mount Kupappey in the municipality.

The 42-km. runners will also pass through the magnificent Chapyusen waterfalls while the 12-km. and 24-km. runners will summit Mt. Fato for their first six kilometers, which is a lung-busting uphill journey, the organizers said.

The start and fi-nish line will be at the municipal Capitol with race kits claiming and orientation happening on June 10.

Prizes await top three male and female runners in the 42-km. per age category in the 18 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 years old and up, and will be given sash and trophy and gift products from sponsors.

Top 10 male and female finishers for the 24-km. will be awarded with sash, trophy, and gift products.

The oldest runner will also be recognized in the 42-km. while the oldest and youngest runner will be awarded in the 24-km. Top three in the male and female categories will be given a trophy and gift products in the 12-km. while top three male and female will be awarded with trophy in the six-km. 

Registration is ongoing but with late fees set are P3,500 for 42-km.; P2,500 for 24-km.; P1,500 for 12-km.; and P500 for 6-km. while Bontoc runners will have a P500 discount in all races except for the 6-km.

The fee includes race kit, event shirt, trail snacks and aid stations, trail fee, finishers’ token for 42-km., 22-km., and 12-km and certificates for 6-km., post-race meals and snacks during the orientation. 

All participants are expected to be self-contained and self-reliant during the course of the trail run. Aid stations will be provided.
