Fifteen beneficiaries of the Pudtol Agrarian Reform Community participated in the skills training on pineapple resource-based bread and pastry processing.

The skills training was spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry-Apayao Office through the Negosyo Center Pudtol on June 4 and 5 at Amkiland, Barangay Swan.

DTI Kapatid Mentor ME graduate Reihanah Baddo from San Francisco, Luna, Apayao served as the trainer.

Baddo is a home-based baker, an entrepreneur, and an instructor at the Apayao State College – Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Department.

She shared her knowledge and skills as a baker and provided the participants insights on processing pineapple into different value-added products instead of selling them as raw fruit at a low cost.

The participants had a hands-on experience in transforming their surplus pineapple produce into more profitable finished products through the use of the Shared Service Facility provided to them by DTI in 2018.

The participants were able to produce several products during their training such as pineapple pie crispy crust, rolled bread with pineapple fillings, pineapple cupcake, pineapple up-side down cake, and pineapple juice.

The activity which was conducted as the municipality celebrated its 7th Pinya Festival, is in support to pineapple product as the One Town One Product of Pudtol.

Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua lauded the efforts of the DTI in providing additional skills to the people of Pudtol on how they could develop their bountiful produce of pineapple into processed foods.

Pascua said amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the LGU in partnership with the different government agencies continue to support the farmers and other folks in the municipality to empower them and develop their skills and gain knowledge not only in farming but also in other aspects, such as food processing. – Redjie Melvic Cawis
