La Trinidad, Benguet has temporarily synchronized its traffic scheme for taxi units from Baguio entering its jurisdiction from June 21 to 30.
The town’s action came after the city government started to implement an experimental traffic scheme for taxi units that traverse its territorial jurisdiction.
As a result, La Trinidad’s traffic enforcers ended up apprehending taxi units which ferried passengers from Baguio to different areas in the town.
But due to the huge number of apprehensions and complaints from taxi drivers and operators, the La Trinidad police station decided to return the citation tickets issued to the taxi drivers.
In an executive order issued June 23, Mayor Romeo Salda said the socio-economic activities between the city and the municipality are intertwined especially travel and transportation.
Salda shared that Baguio Councilor Benny Bomogao, co-chair of the Traffic and Transportation Management Committee, has attended the Municipal Advisory Council meeting and requested the town to adopt the temporary traffic scheme being implemented by the city.
La Trinidad started to implement the temporary traffic scheme for taxi units traversing the municipality on June 24 from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
On June 26, taxi units with license plates ending 5,6,7,8,9, and 0 will be allowed to enter La Trinidad while those prohibited are with license plates ending in 1,2,3, and 4.
On June 27, taxi units with license plates ending in 1,2,3,4,9, and 0 are allowed while those ending in 5,6,7, and 8 are prohibited.
On June 28, taxi units with license plates ending in 3,4,5,6,7, and 8 are allowed while those ending in 9,0,1, and 2 are disallowed.
On June 29, taxi units with license plates ending in 1,2,7,8,9, and 0 are allowed while those ending in 3,4,5, and 6 are disallowed.
On June 30, taxi units with license plates ending in 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 are allowed while those with license plates ending in 7,8,9, and 0 are prohibited.
In 2011, La Trinidad passed Ordinance 13-2011, which is synchronized with Baguio’s coding scheme. – Ofelia C. Empian
