DAGUIOMAN, Abra – Drug offenders in this town can now take shelter in the newly established Balay Silangan where their reformation process would start.
The establishment of Balay Silangan in Barangay Tui was made possible through the initiative of the local government unit headed by Mayor Marcelo Padilla and Vice Mayor Salma Padilla.
Padilla and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Director Gil Cesario Castro led the inauguration of the two-story building that will serve as a temporary refuge for drug offenders as they undergo the reformation programs of the government to become self-sufficient and law-abiding citizens.
Castro lauded the LGU’s move in prioritizing the establishment of their Balay Silangan.
Padilla expressed gratitude to the efforts of government agencies in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Gov. Joy Bernos, who chairs the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, ordered the establishment of a Balay Silangan in each municipality by the first quarter of 2021.
