SALLAPADAN, Abra – The upgrading of an access road in Sitio Induyas, Naguilian here under the Support to the Barangay Development Program (SBDP) is 84.15 percent complete as of Oct. 22.

The 500-meter road upgrade worth more than P5 million is expected to be complete end of November.

The project was recently inspected by the monitoring team of the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Cordillera along with the members of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed-Conflict (PTF-Elcac) headed by Gov. Joy Bernos.

Naguilian Punong Barangay Rex Chester Amasi said the project completion matters a lot, especially to the residents of Sitio Induyas, as it provides them easier access to their farmlands which are the main source of their livelihood and to a road network leading to Sitio Lam-awan.

“Before the project started, vehicles cannot pass through this path because it is a confined and congested space. Now, cargo trikes and motorcycles are able to traverse through this road soon as it is already widened and concreted,” Amasi said.

Another SBDP project for Barangay Naguilian, a water system project, is set to begin soon after the completion of the water source laboratory test.

Amasi thanked the National Task Force-Elcac for the projects for their barangay which he is optimistic would uplift the lives of the residents.

He said since the government has shown its presence in their area, residents no longer experience disturbance from the communist-terrorist groups.

The projects were made possible through Executive Order 70 of President Rodrigo Duterte institutionalizing a “whole-of-nation” approach to end local communist armed conflict towards the attainment of sustainable and inclusive peace.

Aside from Naguilian, there are five SBDP covered barangays in Abra: Ud-udiao, also in Sallapadan, Bayabas, Buano, Dulao and Duldulao in Malibcong. – Christian    Tubadeza
