This near-sighted Ibaloy writer is quite sure that one of the most cherished dreams of every citizen of this beautiful archipelago of delicious coconuts and smiling carabaos is to have a house they can call their own no matter how humble it may be.
Maybe some of our honorable officials who belong to equally honorable political dynasties may already have several palatial homes and resthouses all over the country (and maybe even abroad), so they could be the exception. I could be wrong, of course.
Anyway, it’s nice to learn that the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development announced the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-Ibig Fund has released another P101.5 million in developmental loans for Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s “Pambansang pabahay para sa Pilipino” affordable housing program, according to reports.
The funds will finance the construction of the Bocaue, Bulacan Manor Housing Project that will have five 14-story condominium buildings on a 14-hectare site and aims to provide 1,888 housing units for residents and government employees in the area.
Reports stated it was the fourth tranche of the revolving developmental loan released by Pag-Ibig for the President’s program.
In April, P200M was provided for projects in Luzon and the Visayas and another P350M was released in February for a project in Palayan City.
The reports added that Pag-Ibig is one of DHSUD’s key shelter agencies and has approved nearly P13 billion in revolving credit lines last year for two other housing agencies.
Well, hooray!
We do hope that noble endeavors such as this Pabahay program will succeed in providing affordable and decent housing for our countrymen, especially those most in need and deserving to have a home of their own but cannot afford to do so.
We also hope that worthy programs such as this will not be politicized in any shape, size, or form. Just saying.
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless and keep us all safe.
