Two Baguio racers are in contention for the championship round of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup at the Clark International Speedway.

This after racing phenom Iñigo Anton has wrapped up another stellar weekend in the second leg of the TGR Vios Cup on Oct. 15 to 16.

Anton of Toyota North Edsa-Obengers placed second in race four and eventually finished first in races five and six in the Sporting Class, extending his lead for the championship even more.

Anton initially led race four but was later passed by Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement Racing after heavy rains poured down in the closing laps of the race.  He then recovered with two brilliant starts for races five and six and never looked back, leading both races from flag to flag.

Anton’s teammate Julian Tang finished second in races five and six while Jacob Ang and Joaquin Garrido filled the third spot of the podium for races five and six.

Another Baguio boy, Gerard Loy, had a successful race in the Super Sporting Class finishing third in race five and second in race six.

Loy is still very much in contention for the championship with Team Obengers driver, Estefano Rivera, as his main rival for top spot. Anton and Loy, together with promotional driver Julia delos Angeles, were named Bridgestone Fan Favorite Racers.

Anton now holds a 24-point lead in the championship over Tang with three races remaining.

“It’s not going to be easy since the last three races of the series will be double points so anything can still happen. My team is really working hard to prepare the car for the last three races. I hope we carry the momentum into the finals in November. I would also like to thank my dad who has been with me and guiding me every step of the way. I owe it all to him,” Anton said.

After a successful stint in  real racing, Anton is now back to training in virtual racing under former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong’s Axle Motorsports Team in the virtual Le Mans series.
