LUNA, Apayao – The provincial government has distributed 57 patrol vehicles to barangays in the seven municipalities.
During the turnover on Feb. 13, Gov. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang reminded barangay officials to use the vehicles during emergencies.
“Use the vehicle to help our people in times of need because our barangays are (isolated),” Bulut-Begtang said.
Calanasan was given 10 vehicles; Conner, 10; Cabugao, seven; Luna, eight; Pudtol, nine; Sta. Marcela, five; and Flora received eight. Apayao has 135 barangays.
Bulut-Begtang said the 40 barangays that have yet to be connected to the road system will be given vehicles in the third batch.
Ronald Ramirez, Association of Barangay Captains president of Luna, said the vehicles will be used to transport patients to the hospital and during calamities.
“Do not use it for political gains. Make it accessible to people in need. Use it for the good of all,” he said.
The turnover ceremony coincided with the province’s 25th founding anniversary celebration.
Apayao was separated from Kalinga on Feb. 14, 1995, by virtue of Republic Act 7878 initiated by then Rep. Elias K. Bulut, Sr. after winning the seat in 1992. He served as the province’s first governor.
Bulut-Begtang said she will to continue to work on the opening of roads in the province, even if these are just dirt roads, to connect the villages to the seat of governance. – PNA
