The provincial government of Apayao joined the National Oral Health Month observance kicking off with a fun bike ride and fun run.
More than 100 participants from the different government offices and uniformed personnel and advocates participated in the fun run and bike ride from the Apayao welcome arc in Barangay Quirino towards the ECBJR Multipurpose Building and Evacuation Center in Barangay San Isidro Sur in Luna where others joined in the zumba.
Students participated in the poster making contest designed for school children while employees of the provincial government joined the search for the most orally fit individual.
Dr. Anabelle Bawang, DOH-Cordillera Oral Health Program coordinator, conducted a lecture on the importance of good oral health practices as part of general wellness especially to the children and the interventions of DOH-Cordillera to minimize oral diseases such as oral infections, gum diseases, tooth decay, and other conditions that can limit one’s capacity to bite, chew, speak, and smile.
Members of the Philippine Dental Association-Cagayan Chapter and the Municipal and Hospital Dentists of Apayao also conducted counseling sessions for the parents and children.
This Dental Month observance pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 559, signed by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2004, aims to educate the public about the value of maintaining good oral health while preventing possible diseases connected to it.
The theme this year is “Sa bibig na malusog at alaga, masustansyang pagkain enjoy hanggang pagtanda!”
