LUNA, Apayao – Local government units and officials in this province extended support to students and workers stranded in different areas due to the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine to curb the transmission of the coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19).

Using social media to reach out to their affected constituents, LGUs sent financial assistance through available money remittance centers in the areas.  

Pudtol Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua said they provided P5,000 each to more than 200 stranded workers and students in Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Baguio City, and Metro Manila.

In Conner, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Albert Bacuyag said the LGU headed by Mayor Martina Dangoy sent P2,000 each to 71 students studying in the different parts of Cagayan and the Cordillera. 

Dangoy also reached out to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and La Trinidad, Benguet Mayor Romeo Salda to include stranded students from Conner in their localities as recipients of relief goods, which they did.   

For Santa Marcela, the LGU led by Mayor Evelyn Martinez provided P3,000 each to 36 students outside the province. 

Calanasan also extended assistance to 84 students. Students who are in Baguio City and La Trinidad were also provided with relief goods from local artist and cultural worker Jo Kapuno.

Kabugao started sending financial support to students outside the town at the start of the ECQ.  Eighty students were given P2,500 each.  

The Isnag Philippine National Police-Special Action Force group deployed in the different areas in the country extended P14,000 for students through the LGU-Kabugao.  

Apayao Board Member Kyle Mariah Chelsea Bulut also donated her month’s worth of salary to help affected workers and those applying for work abroad who are in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna. At least 65 individuals were given P2,000. – Redjie Cawis
