Local artists have launched an online art exhibit to help the art community cope during the pandemic.

Called “Binadang Di Kordilyera”, the art exhibit is initiated by the Baguio Arts and Crafts Collective, Inc. (BACCI) and Council for Baguio Creative City (CBCC).

Binadang is a Kankana-ey term for bayanihan or unity especially in times of hardships or crisis.

The art exhibit also aims to continuously promote the “impeccable artistry and craftsmanship of Baguio’s creative community”, according to organizers.

Through the event, which runs from May 11 to June 11, the organizers also want to create immediate opportunities for artists through the use of digital technology.

“The Binadang Di Kordilyera exhibit is participated in by seasoned and budding artists and artisans from Baguio and nearby municipalities of Benguet,” the group said.

The artworks of artists Oliver Olivete, Patrick Palasi, Jo-anne Bray Siadto, Santos Oyan, Rene Aquitana, Norman Olegario, Januen Bnd, Gretta Apolinar, Bumbo Villanueva, Tara Natividad, Sirk Deuda, Edmund Andrada, Juan Elani Tula, Edwin Macadaeg, Sensi Garcia, Jayson Duclan, Venazir Martinez, Jake Busacay, Jordan Mang-osan, and Juan Almirol will be on display during the online art exhibit.

“The posted artworks and crafts will be up for sale and will benefit the participating artist/artisan whose work will be sold,” the group said.

Part of the proceeds will be given to CBCC’s ‘Good Acts’ project, which had initially released care packs to artists, artisans, and cultural workers.

“With the digital media as a platform for display and selling of works, BACCI and CBCC is hopeful that the creative industry of the city would slowly make a positive economic comeback,” the group said.

The online exhibit will be posted in the BACCI Facebook page.
