Student-athletes from Benguet and neighboring areas showed their prowess in the various combative sports disciplines during the Sablan National High School online combative sports skills showdown virtual edition on Dec. 7.

The online sports showdown featured boxing, kickboxing, and wushu-sanda student-athletes of SNHS and its affiliate schools.

Leading the juniors’ female category was champion Reshie Claire Bagni of SNHS Kafagway Eagles followed by Mary Grace Carluen of Sta. Rosa City Lions and Jamaica Dawat also of SNHS Kafagway Eagles.

In the juniors’ male, Rodel Mat-an of SNHS Kafagway Eagles emerged on top followed by Rumer Chinamling and Justin De Lara of Sta. Rosa City Lions.

Rosmarie Recto of the University of Baguio Cardinals ruled the seniors’ female category followed by Saint Louis University’s Gwynyth Zoe Paulino and Jerene Rose Yldeso of Sta Rosa Kafagway Lions placed third in the event organized by the SNHS Kafagway Combative Club in partnership with Amazing Sports Promotion with support from WRC General Merchandise.

Their male counterparts in the seniors category saw Daryl Chulipas of UB Cardinals as the winner followed by teammate Xavier Villanueva and Ivan Bryle Bestre.

Organizer Bryan Olod of SNHS Kafagway Combative Club said the online event is part of the sports development program of the SNHS and other participating schools, which is also in compliance with the Department of Education’s mandate in creating sports programs in the midst of the pandemic.

Other participating teams include Pinget National High School, municipality of Sablan, and Kafagway MMA.

The event was also supported by 50’s Diner, Break Room, Mumma Fight Club, Dinawis, MPH Community, MMA Strikers Fightshop, Han Yan Blades, Underground Battle MMA, Max Fusion, Isuzu, Trick Striker, Oriental Muayboran Academy, and Donnie Geisler Taekwondo Training Center. – Ofelia C. Empian
