Baguio City’s wushu athletes carried the country in the China-ASEAN Taijiquan online competition which culminated on Dec. 20, winning 12 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze medals. 

The Philippine team was led by Hanoi Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Jones Inso who bagged a total of three gold medals, each in the 56 chenstyle taijiquan, 42 taijijian, and 24 taijiquan, and one silver medal in the 24 taijiquan.   

SEA Games gold medalist and playing coach Daniel Parantac also contributed two gold medals in the 24 taijiquan and 32 taijijian, one silver medal in the 42 taijiquan and one bronze in the 42 taijian.

Sergio Baguitan won two gold medals in the 24 taijiquan and 32 taijijian while Hans Tingal Lubguban won one gold medal in the 32 taijijian and one silver in the 24 taijiquan.

Another gold medal was contributed by Sheran Dacanay in the 32 taijijian and one silver in the 24 taijiquan during the event that started on Nov. 1. 

Two silver medals apiece were clinched by Alexander Mercylin Jimenez and Carla Stephanie Tilap with the former placing second in the 42 taijiquan and 42 taijijian while Tilap in the 24 taijiquan and 32 taijijian.

Kariza Kris Chan got silver in the 24 taijiquan and two bronze medals in the 42 taiquan and 42 taijian; Fawzia Joy Castro won silver in the 24 taijiquan and bronze in the 32 taijian; Felly Segundo bagged silver in the 24 taijiquan and bronze in the 32 taijian; Julian Mangomoc got silver in the 32 taijian and bronze in the 24 taijiquan; and Wahab Saber got silver in the 24 taijiquan and bronze in the 32 taijian.   

Other locally-based wushu athletes who won one medals apiece are Albina Backong with silver medal in the 32 taijian, Alessandra May Arevalo Maquilan with silver in the 24 taijiquan, Nastasha Enriquez with bronze in the 24 taijiquan, and Raymund Pablo winning bronze in the 24 taijiquan. 

The Baguio-based athletes contributed the most medals during the international competition including other national athletes, SEA Games gold medalist Agatha Wong who also captured one gold and three silver medals, while Junior World Championships bronze medalist Zion Daraliay contributed two gold and one silver medals and Tate Chuang bagging four silver medals. – Ofelia C.
