The city council authorized Mayor Benjamin Magalong to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera for the transfer of P5 million for the implementation of the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita financial grant for Baguio.

The resolution was in response to the earlier request of City Veterinarian and Agriculturist Silardo Bested for the council to authorize the mayor to sign the MOA to facilitate the transfer of P5M.

The program is for the improvement of the distribution system of agricultural produce from farm to market, directly linking farmers and fisherfolk to consumers in high demand and depressed areas, creating an additional market for small farmers and fisherfolk, and providing consumers with agri-fishery products and other basic commodities at affordable prices.

The city government signified its intent in seeking the assistance of the DA-Cordillera in the construction of Kadiwa stores and provision of trading capital for its accredited farmers’ cooperatives and associations to enhance their capacities to transport agricultural products to the markets and also to improve its capacity in delivering its services to farmers, market linkage programs, and serve in preparing food relief and agricultural assistance, especially during emergencies.

The authority carries an additional requirement which is for the MOA to be submitted to the city council for confirmation. – PIO release
