City officials commended athletes of Baguio who reigned supreme by making the city the overall champion in the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2022 held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last month.
In a resolution, the city council said it is with great pride and joy the people and officialdom of the city conferred the commendation to the athletes who won 31 gold, 30 silver, and 30 bronze medals.
The overall champion trophy also came with a cash reward of P5 million which was awarded to the city delegation by the Philippine Sports Commission and Department of Education.
The city council hailed the Baguio athletes for their domination in the many sports disciplines, especially in combat sports and archery.
It added the 279-strong Baguio delegation was a powerhouse for consistently winning the overall trophy in the past editions of the Batang Pinoy National Championships.
“The outstanding performances of the Baguio-based athletes in the Batang Pinoy National Championships with the supervision of their coaches and support from their families have portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication that serve as inspiration especially to the youth,” reads the council resolution. – PIO release
