The Athletic Bowl swimming pool will soon cater to athletes after its rehabilitation is almost complete with only the diving pool left unfinished.
City Administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said the corrections for the swimming pool have been implemented to fit the Olympic-size standard length of 50 meters. The swimming pool was earlier found to be two centimeters short of the international standard.
Dela Peña said the new liners, electronic starting blocks, and touch pads are in place and new heaters and pumps were also tested and working.
The smaller pool has been redesigned to accommodate an area for diving and half of it has been dug and tiled.
Further, dela Peña said the P47-million grandstand extension at the Athletic Bowl is also nearing completion. The additional 50-meter length will allow for more seats for spectators and more offices to be opened in its basement.
He said the four towers for the floodlighting of the oval are being set up and will soon be energized, with the Baguio City District Engineering Office in-charge of the project.
Meanwhile, the city is expected to conduct the groundbreaking for the construction of the P391-M youth convergence and multipurpose gym in front of pool facility.
The biggest project at the seven-hectare sports facility has been bid out to Quezon City based M.E. Sicat Construction, Inc. which describes itself as “a leading and AAA certified constructor offering engineering solutions across a wide spectrum of disciplines.”
The company is currently undertaking design and construction of the faculty building of the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City and the four-story San Mateo College and Sports Stadium in San Mateo, Rizal. – Ofelia C. Empian
