Baguio City will help neighboring towns in Benguet ramp up their Covid-19 immunization program by including their residents who are working in the city along with their family members in its own vaccination campaign.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city will continue opening its sites for Baguio workers who are residents of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay.

Once majority have been immunized, the vaccination coverage will later be extended to the family members of these workers, the mayor said.

The mayor said the city can afford to extend help since its own vaccination coverage is well on its way to achieving its target number of eligible population.

The city also has enough resources in terms of vaccine supply and facilities.

“We belong to one community and these workers are coming in and out of Baguio so we need to help each other. Otherwise, we won’t be able to stop the virus transmission if we are vaccinated and our neighbors who mingle with us are not,” he said.

He said he had already informed the mayors of the LISTT of his plans as well as the Department of Health regional office and the National Inter-agency Task Force which had committed support to the undertaking.

Requirements will be decided on and set later. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
