High school student Dion Schatz Ballesca has emerged the overall champion in the 5th Baguio Annual Fishing Tournament held Nov. 25 at Burnham Lake.
Boasting three years of angling experience at the tender age of nine, Ballesca displayed remarkable prowess during the tournament at the expense of adult participants.
He began this hobby at six and credits his achievements to the guidance of his grandfather, Omar Crisanto Ayson Ballesca, a seasoned professional angler.
The competition drew 25 participants across different age groups. Divided into three batches, each group was allotted an hour for fishing. Scoring relied on the total length of fish or shrimp caught within the specified time frame.
Rafael Serrano organized the event in collaboration with Bong Sabado, Jackson Abion, Frank Riego, and Ronald Claros, and in cooperation with the city government through the City Administrator’s Office and the City Environment and Parks Management Office. – Tess Macasinag
