LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – In efforts to improve the services of barangay captains who are the first line of responders of issues and concerns in the community, Benguet Caretaker Rep. Eric Yap provided smart cellphones to Benguet’s punong barangays.
Yap bought android phones for each of the 140 barangay captains in the province to upgrade their services through an improved communication system, especially this time of health crisis, as they may have mobile phones but these are old type.
Through the smartphones, communication can be facilitated. The barangay captains can create their message group and can bring to fore their issues and concerns of their respective areas of responsibility to his office and other concerned offices, said Yap.
They can also take photos of pressing concerns and be updated on happenings.  They were also assured of load for internet connectivity.
Expressing his desire for the people of Benguet, “‘Yung serbisyo po natin pabilisin natin. Ilapit po natin sa mga tao ‘yung ating congressional office. Ilapit po ng mga barangay captain natin sa atin nang hindi na po sila bumabiyahe galing pa po’ng Buguias, galing Mankayan papunta sa La Trinidad para lang po magsabi ng kanilang problema.”
Citing examples such as crime incidents or damaged roads, Yap said they can bring to the attention of concerned agencies or officials through the use of smartphone.
The Office of the Congressional District will also be giving smartphones to Sangguniang Kabataan presidents for easy coordination of their concerns.
Yap also assured tablets for some deserving students which they can make use for online classes during the Covid-19 pandemic. – Susan C. Aro
