The Office of the President will no longer need to issue proclamations every 15th of July of every year for the region to celebrate the Cordillera Administrative Region Day as a special non-working holiday, if the proposal to make the same a special non-working holiday is approved in Congress.
Benguet caretaker has filed House Bill 7089 declaring July 15 of every year as a special non-working holiday for the whole Cordillera in commemoration of its founding anniversary.
“We are one with the people of Cordillera in the celebration of the 33rd founding anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region. Declaring July 15 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the whole region will allow Cordillerans to celebrate and honor the region’s achievements and struggles through the years,” said Yap.
Yap said this would give time for people of the Cordillera to remember the region’s humble beginnings and past successes.
“This year’s theme, One resilient Cordillera: Embracing the new normal towards recovery,” reflects our strength in braving the unknown to secure the safety and well-being of our people. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, our efforts were directed into ensuring that no one is left behind, in terms of providing relief to far-flung areas and delivering medical services to those in need,” Yap said.
He also acknowledged the resiliency of Cordillerans especially during this pandemic.
“During these difficult times, we have witnessed how self-reliant and resilient Cordillerans are. This is what we aspire to reflect through our policies and programs – the strength of the people of Cordillera,” Yap said. – Ofelia C. Empian
