LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Some 439 child development workers (CDW) from the 13 municipalities of the province received P2.195 million cash assistance or P5,000 each on Aug. 5 from the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
CDWs are among the barangay workers given yearly financial assistance by the provincial government through Ordinance 15-172 approved in June 2015.
“The amount serves as recognition of the barangay workers’ efforts in community building,” PSWDO head Juana Bannawe said.
Bannawe said for the previous years, the number of CDWs in the province was divided into two groups, with each group receiving the cash assistance alternately.
This year, however, Gov. Melchor Diclas decided to give all the CDWs the assistance at the same time.
The provincial government’s cash assistance benefited 20 CDWs from Atok, 23 from Bakun, 37 from Bokod, 29 in Buguias, 45 in Itogon, 22 in Kapangan, 29 in Kibungan, 60 in La Trinidad, 56 in Mankayan, eight in Sablan, 37 in Tuba, and 28 in Tublay.
Diclas said he hopes to increase the assistance for the CDWs if there is more fund because their job is really challenging and that they play an important role in community building.
Bannawe said they had to go to the different municipalities to give the cash assistance “so they will no longer spend or go through the hassle of traveling to the capital town or to places with automated teller machines. – Pigeon Lobien
