Athletes and residents who want to use the oval and the tennis court of the Benguet Sports Complex can now spend their time longer with its extended operating hours of the sports facilities.

Provincial Sports Coordinator Dean Mark Monang said the operating hours of the oval is from 5 to 10 a.m. while the tennis court will be open from 6 to 11 a.m.

Monang said the extended operating hours will allow residents and athletes to continue with their physical fitness training and exercises.

Those who will use the facilities are still reminded to observe the minimum health protocols.

Meanwhile, installation of tiles along the walkway is ongoing and more upgrades will be implemented with Benguet caretaker Rep. Eric Yap allocating P25 million for the flooring, bleachers, and other accessories of the gym.

Another P165M will be allocated for the construction of a stadium and installation of a Tartan track in the oval field.

The grandstand will soon be demolished to give way to a bigger stadium complete with bleachers and additional rooms below it as additional gymnasium for athletes.

Yap said the funding are lined up in the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA). Bidding of the project commences once the President signs the GAA. – Ofelia C.   Empian
