SM City Baguio and SM Store have partnered with the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) Advisory Council in donating light emitting diode (LED) bulbs to four schools and Bears of Joy to chosen beneficiaries on Feb. 17.
The recipient schools were Baguio City National High School (400 LED bulbs) Apolinario Mabini Elementary School (150), Manuel L. Quezon ES (150), Pines City National High School (300), and SPED ES (153), and 270 Bears of Joy.
Manuel L. Quezon ES Principal Ellen Grande thanked SM and BGHMC for the donation. “This is good timing, since we are in need of lights to help us prepare for the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Meet.”
BGHMC Advisory Council Chair Ram Sharma also thanked SM for the partnership. “You made the public schools and SPED children very happy,” he said.
Last year, SM donated over 900 Bears of Joy to various beneficiaries and the rest were turned over to the Baguio Museum and BGHMC.
The Bears of Joy is part of SM’s corporate social responsibility program. It is a joint initiative of SM Cares, SM Supermalls, and Toy Kingdom.
SM City Baguio Assistant Mall Manager John Paul Arnaiz said this is one of the company’s ways of giving back to the community.
“For Bears of Joy, customers can buy two bears, one to keep and one to donate,” adding some customers donated the two bears they bought. The two stuffed bears cost P200.
Each year, the bears are dressed in different costumes such as cheerleaders, ballerinas, pilots, and firemen. The customer can also write a message or name the bear for the child who will receive it.
Another CSR project is the Share-a-Toy campaign, a nationwide project by The SM Store and Toy Kingdom.
Under the initiative, booths are set up in The SM Store and Toy Kingdom branches where mall goers can donate new/pre-loved toys to be given to chosen beneficiaries. – Press release
