Two bike rides for-a-cause are set Feb. 19 in Baguio City and March 4 in Besao, Mountain Province to raise funds for an ailing biker and to be-nefit a school.

The “Dynamic Sunday Ride” set at 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 at the Burnham Park, particularly at Juan Luna and Drive Lake Drive biking lane near the Tourist Police Unit. 

The event will benefit local cyclist and runner Rowena “Weng” Bay-an, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Organizer Team Saleng said proceeds of the event will go to Bay-an’s medical expenses.

On March 4, the “Bike for St. James II” organized by Team Kalasag aims to help raise funds for the construction of a school building at Saint James High School in Besao.

Organizers said proceeds from the biking activity will be donated to the school.

They also aim to promote Besao as a haven for tourists with its majestic rice fields, mossy forests, magnificent waterfalls, and the world-famous “Besao sunset.”

Gun starts at 8 a.m. with participants in all categories starting at the same time. The elite category spans 42.2 kilometers around Besao.

Bikers will start at the municipal hall at Kin-iway towards Payeo going to Besao Proper, Banguitan, Bunga, Catengan, and Panabungen where they will make a U-turn.

Bikers will trace back their routes to Catengan, Bunga, Banguitan, Besao Proper, Payeo, and finally ride back to Kin-iway with the finish line at the municipal hall.

Registration is open at Glow Enterprise, a bike shop behind Allied Bank at Km. 4, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Registration fee is P1,300 inclusive of dinner on March 3, breakfast and lunch on March 4, snacks along the route, souvenir shirt, and guaranteed cash prizes and medals.

Also, free lodging will be available at St. James High School but riders should bring their blanket and pillow.

No on-site registration is allowed, as the last day of registration is on Feb. 26.

Prizes await champions and runners-up during the event that is open to all amateur bikers and backed by Glow Enterprise and in coordination with Besao municipality.
