In observance of this year’s National Disaster Resilience Month, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) will conduct a blood-letting activity every Tuesday of July starting July 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Melvin Jones, Burnham Park in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross-Baguio Chapter.
“Sama-samang pagsulong tungo sa katatagan sa gitna ng bagong normal” is this year’s observance theme that focuses on strengthening disaster resilience in the country while adapting to the new normal caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
CDRRMO officer-in-charge Antonette Anaban in a media forum on June 30 at City Hall urged the public to participate in the activity and become blood donors.
She also requested barangay officials to encourage their constituents to do the same to replenish the blood reserves of PRC-Baguio that would be used during emergencies to save lives.
A CDRRMO staff said if the blood-letting activity is successful, there might be a possibility that it could be extended should budgetary requirements allow.
Anaban added for the remaining months of the year, the CDRRMO hopes to enhance its planning process and make it even more participatory and responsive to public needs.
“We aim to contribute to the efficient disaster preparedness and management goal of this administration especially with the infusion of new technology,” she said.
Anaban also thanked various government agencies, civil society organizations and other private organizations that continue to lend support to the CDRRMO in terms of manpower and resources to better serve the people. – Gaby B. Keith
