BONTOC, Mountain Province – Learners from the elementary and high schools, along with the organizations of persons with disability in this capital town showcased their talents and skills in painting in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities last Dec. 8.

The activity was initiated by the local government unit through the Municipal Disability Affairs Office headed by Maria Codeo and the sangguniang bayan in partnership with the Bontoc Differently Abled Persons Organization.

Focusing on the theme “United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goals, for, with, and by persons with disabilities”, Codeo said 25 young artists and art enthusiasts joined the painting contest.

She added the activity aimed to inspire every contestant and other PWD audience that even with limitations, one can make the best out of their ability.

Ruth Basco from Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School clinched first place in the painting contest and will receive P7,000. Her coach is Phoebe Samdao.

Adrian Balaniyan from Mountain Province SPED Center came in second place and will receive P5,000. Balaniyan’s coach is Judith Tangilag.

Shialtiel Szept Peckley from Maligcong Elementary School landed in third place and will receive P3,000. The coach is Sig Farnican.

The others will receive P1,000 each as consolation.

The judges are Ezra Mik Malawis and Clienteast Van Totanes who are both making names with their talents and skills in arts. – Alpine K. Malwagay and Aprilyn P. Tudlong
