BUGUIAS, Benguet – The local government unit received from the Department of Social Welfare and Development P20 million grant, which will be used for poverty alleviation projects.
On July 9, DSWD-CAR Director Leo Quintilla and Mayor Ruben Tinda-an signed a memorandum of agreement containing the commitment of both parties.
The amount will be used for recovery measures, prevention and mitigation of the negative impact of the community quarantine in the town’s 14 barangays.
Quintilla and national Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services Program Manager Janet P. Armas said the local government of Buguias was chosen as recipient of the grant because of the LGU’s compliance with the agency’s criteria such as its adoption of policies for poverty alleviation or the Community Driven Development Process (CDD), and for being a consistent recipient of several awards on CDD implementation in the previous years.
The occasion was graced by Department of the Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Rufina T. Fegcan who was the guest speaker and who also conferred to the municipality the 2019 Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award for scoring the highest rating among the other awardees in Benguet. – Pamela Carias
