Five Cordillerans have delivered four medals, including three golds for the national squad in the Asian Kickboxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand from Dec. 11 to 18.

Female boxer turned kickboxer Renz Daquel of Abra delivered the second gold medal for the country in the under 48-kilogram low kick event.

The first gold medal was by Jovan Medallo in the creative musical form with weapons category.

Former World Wushu Championship gold medalist turned member of the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas(SKP) and two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Jean Claude Saclag won the third gold medal for the country in the low kick 63.5-kg.

Another two-time SEA Games gold medalist Gina Iniong-Araos clinched the last gold medal in the low kick of 60-kg. for the national squad on the final day of the tournament that gathered the best kickboxers in Asia.

Earlier, Kur Lubrica settled for bronze medal for the country while some members of the Team Lakay such as Honorio Banario and Danny Kingad have failed to advance to the medal rounds.

Also winning bronze medals were Team Lakay’s Carlo Alvarez in the light contact 79-kg. and SEA Games silver medalist Claudine Veloso in the light contact in the 56-kg.

To recall, fighters from Team Lakay have been raising the banner for contributing most of the medals for the SKP in the last SEA Games outings. – Harley F. Palangchao
