The city government has set in place contingency measures to ensure peaceful and orderly observance of Holy Week and other summer activities in view of the expected influx of visitors.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong tasked concerned offices to ensure smooth observance of the Lenten and summer in Baguio (Sumvac) and other activities like Araw ng Kagitingan as well as Ramadan in the city by mapping out plans to properly handle various concerns particularly peace and order, traffic, and to ensure safety and comfort of residents and tourists; utilities to ensure enough water supply and smooth solid waste collection and the tourism sector to ensure readiness to cater to the accommodation and comfort needs of their clients.

The Baguio City Police Office under P/Supt. Franciso Bulwayan laid out “Oplan Ligtas Sumvac” measures centered on crime prevention and solution and traffic management for the duration with the involvement of volunteers and civic groups.

BCPO Director for Operations Police Lt/Col. Domingo Gambican and City Operation Management Unit Acting Chief Police Major Rommel Quinio said over 1,000 personnel of the BCPO from its different stations and units will be deployed to man churches, tourist spots, convergence zones, bus terminals and traffic chokepoints in the city.

Quinio said this will include 22 churches, six bus terminals, airport, eight tourist spots, malls, city market and main thoroughfares.

Public assistance desks will also be set up in these areas to receive reports, complaints and queries from the public while quick reaction teams will be on stand-by to respond to emergencies. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
