Mayor Benjamin Magalong issued a memorandum to the city’s punong barangays directing them to submit a comprehensive report on sub-standard projects implemented within their respective areas of jurisdiction, regardless of fund source.

Memorandum 99, s. 2023 dated Oct. 24 asks the barangay officials to provide details and photographs for reference and that their report be emailed on/or before Nov. 30 at [email protected].

The move is in line with the city government’s efforts to enhance the quality of infrastructure projects being undertaken in the city.

The mayor earlier received a report from a concerned resident via social media regarding an alleged sub-standard construction project at Lower Pinget barangay.

Iyon ang mga kailangan namin na information from the community. Mabilis kaming umaksyon d’yan lalo na sa mga sub-standard (na constructions). Natutuwa ako na marami kaming natatanggap na reports tungkol dito from the community,” he said.

Magalong added the city government immediately acts on these complaints by terminating the contracts of erring contractors or issuing them with show cause orders especially if their work slippage or missing a completion deadline is already substantial.

Sa ating mga contractors, especially iyong mga implementing agencies like those in the local government, they should make sure that projects are done within the prescribed standards since what is being used is people’s hard-earned money. The city does not tolerate any kind of corruption,” he said. – Gaby B. Keith
