With his continuous work in pushing for promotion of the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, the Commission on Human Rights recently honored Councilor Arthur Allad-iw of Baguio the ‘Gawad Karapatang Pantao 2021’.
The special citation in the ‘Gawad Gabay Karapatan’ category, which recognizes his efforts in championing the rights and other programs for the PWDs, was presented to Allad-iw during an online meeting on March 23 together with other national winners.
Allad-iw, who is a staunch human rights advocate and defender, vowed to further advance the respect of human rights of every individual in Baguio City and elsewhere. He was nominated last year for the CHR awards.
“Being given such award from the CHR is a great honor as our efforts for the respect of human rights for many years are being recognized,” said Allad-iw, who is the chair of the committee on PWDs and committee on cooperatives, jobs and livelihood.
He said this will be a motivation for him to continue and work harder towards the upliftment of human rights.
Part of his efforts is the creation of a PWD desk in every barangay of Baguio City. Through his perseverance, the PWD Desk Affairs Office of the city government was realized.
During the pandemic lockdowns, he initiated relief efforts for the PWDs in the city and nearby towns of Benguet.
Allad-iw’s initiative was fully supported by the local government units, non-government organizations and private individuals, among others.
