The city government of Baguio is co-sponsoring the conduct of the first Salun-at Wellness Walkathon 2023 scheduled June 24.

The activity is in line with the city government’s vision for a walkable city towards pedestrianization according to Arch. Donna Tabangin, head of the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office (CPDSO).

The walkathon will commence at SM City Baguio by 6 a.m. with the finish line at the Lake Drive, Burnham Park, says organizer Danilo Quinto of the Blue Zones Wellness Movement and Walk Baguio Movement.

There are three categories for the walkathon: category 1 – seniors for the one km. distance; category 2 – family for the three km. distance; and category 3 – individual open for the five km. distance.

All categories will start at SM City Baguio with category 1 passing by the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center down to Sunshine Park, University of the Cordilleras, SSS building., turning left to the PNP Women’s Desk Office then turn right at Lake Drive to finish at the small grandstand in Melvin Jones football field.

For category 2, the route will follow same path down Sunshine Park then turn left passing by Baguio City National High School, make a left turn at the BGH Rotunda going down then turning left by Baguio Medical Center up to Kubong Sawali the make a U-turn going back until the BGH rotund, then turn towards Crown Legacy Hotel, down Inn Rocio then turn right at the Children’s Playground, then a circular route passing the Burnham athletic grounds to the parking area in the Old Auditorium to Lake Drive and finish at the small grandstand in Melvin Jones football field. 

Category 3 will follow the same route as category 2 but will extend the distance from Kubong Sawali all the way to the Department of Education, turn right to Forest House then make a U-turn there and come back the same route all the way to the finish line at the small grandstand at Melvin Jones football field.

“Although aimed at having fun while walking, there will be prizes for the top finishers in all the categories courtesy of major sponsor partner SM City Baguio,” Quinto said.

The event aims to encourage and sustain awareness on walking as one of the best habits for a healthier and fit life while highlighting the City of Baguio as a walkable city. 

Interested participants must secure medical clearance from medical professionals while children below 18 years old will need a release consent from parents or guardians.
