BAUKO, Mountain Province – Barangay officials and youth members of three churches here conducted a cleanup drive at Sitio Pactil, Monamon Sur as one of the environmental conservation initiatives.

Twenty-nine youth members from the Pactil Family Christian Church-Assembly of God; World Aflame Worship Center, Inc.; and Jesus Christ Savior-Universal Pentecostal Church, Inc. and barangay officials joined the activity that focused on cleaning the roads and watershed.

Jerameel Cabu-rao, president of the three churches, said they initiated the cleanup drive, in coordination with the barangay officials as one of the ways to show their concern for their community and to encourage passersby not to throw garbage or litter along the roads.

Barangay midwife Dorilyn S. Pakipac said one of the activity’s goals is to divert the youth’s attention away from vices and lead them towards spiritual growth.

More than 10 sacks of wastes composed of plastic bottles and plastic bags were collected.

Rogel Dag-or, one of the participants, said aside from the lack of garbage bins, one of the problems they observed is the scattered plastic bottles used to contain betel nut juice.

The activity ended with a fellowship with the three churches led by Pastor Clifford Cudiamat, where the importance of being a blessing to others and making a good thing for the glory of God were emphasized. – Cheyenne Y. Wong
