Now that our beloved and long-suffering nation’s favorite fiesta, the elections, is over (Thank God!), let us all come together as one people and be united in supporting those we have elected into office. Let us stop the hate and bashing (especially by paid trolls on social media) and respect the results of this democratic exercise.
Since we deserve the leaders we elect into office, as the adage goes, this near-sighted Ibaloy writer hopes and prays that we have chosen well and that our newly elected or reelected “bossings” will lead the Philippines to greater heights for the greater good of its long-suffering Pinoys and Pinays.
As mentioned in last week’s column, our beautiful archipelago’s moniker as the “Sick Man of Asia” seems to still hold true compared to most of its neighbors that have catapulted themselves into the developed or industrialized league and left us in the dust wondering what went wrong. So, I surmised, maybe wrongly, that we, as a people, have not been “wise” or discerning enough in selecting our leaders in the past.
So, once again, here’s hoping and praying that we have done much better this time around in choosing our national and local leaders who will not enrich themselves and their kin but be true servant-leaders and work for the benefit of the Filipino people. If not, we might as well follow the millions of our countrymen who voted with their feet and left for greener pastures abroad. Just saying. Mabuhay!

FYI: The Happy Hollow National High School (HHNHS) in partnership with the Kabadjo Handlers Association Incorporated launched the “Aspulan ni Ashal” under the Brigada Pagbasa Program. This project aims to assist and motivate some learners in their studies and in different reading and listening activities where teachers visit the learners’ workplace to continuously encourage and monitor their reading abilities and progress in their studies. Alongside with this occasion is the launching of the horseback riding for a cause wherein its proceeds will go to the implementation of the different projects of HHNHS for Brigada Eskwela 2022.

Here’s “My Prayer” by Henry David Thoreau: “Great God, I ask thee for no meaner pelf/ Than that I may not disappoint myself;/ That in my action I may soar as high/ As I can now discern with this clear eye./ And next in value, which thy kindness lends,/ That I may greatly disappoint my friends,/ Howe’er they think or hope that it may be,/ They may not dream how thou ‘st distinguished me./ That my weak hand may equal my firm faith,/ And my life practice more than my tongue saith;/ That my low conduct may not show,/ Nor my relenting lines,/ That I thy purpose did not know,/ Or overrated thy designs.”

Let’s end with a prayer: “Loving God, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can’t seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly. Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you’ve laid out for me. (from the Internet)
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless and keep us all safe.
