Mayor Benjie Magalong warned project contractors to strictly observe at all times health and safety protocols in project sites set by the city government as a condition to their being allowed to resume construction work.
“Please be warned that we will no longer give consideration to violators.  If we find a single violation of the minimum health requirements, we will not hesitate to cancel their permits,” the mayor said on July 1.
He said workers in the construction site must always observe Covid-19 safety protocols like wearing of mask and keeping physical distance, and observe occupational safety standards by also wearing personal protective equipment like hard hats and body gears.
In allowing construction works, the city issued guidelines for construction sites to follow for the protection of their workers from Covid-19 like the observance of said health and safety etiquettes and the provision of ample bunk houses to ensure distancing, hygiene and disinfection facilities, and temporary isolation medical area.
Shortly after his assumption from office last year, Magalong stressed the importance of following safety standards and procedures in project sites and directed concerned offices to ensure that all workers in ongoing projects wear PPEs like protective clothing, helmets, goggles or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or infection, and holding contractors accountable for violations. – Aileen P.
