A lot of patients who tested positive for the Covid-19 do not know they have the virus that causes the infection.
This is why the Department of Health has been relentless in its campaign for the public to remain cautious and adhere to the health protocols laid down by the agency and local government units.
In the Cordillera, the DOH reported half of the Covid-19 cases are asymptomatic patients or do not manifest any symptoms of the infection such as having cough, fever, and sore throat.
As of July 1, DOH-Cordillera has recorded 116 Covid-19 cases, of which almost 50 percent are asymptomatic patients.
Out of the total cases, 25 are currently confined at the hospitals of which 20 did not show symptoms of the disease.
DOH-Cordillera Director Amelita Pangilinan said the asymptomatic patients were found to have been infected by the virus that causes the Covid-19 when they were subjected to the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests because they are among the groups that are considered to have a high risk of being infected.
“Nagkataon lang na na-test sila because they are part of the vulnerable group and the test yielded positive results,” she said.
Health care workers and members of the Philippine National Police are among the vulnerable groups.
Pangilinan said that even if the Cordillera falls under the moderate risk category in Covid-19 infection, the public must not let their guards down because the threat of infection remains and the vaccine to prevent the disease is not yet available.
The government remains firm in imposing to the public the wearing of face masks, observance of physical distancing, practicing basic hygiene, and staying at home as these are considered the most cost-efficient ways to prevent to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
Pangilinan said everyone must be responsible in protecting themselves and their families by simply following the preventive measures imposed by the concerned agencies. – Jane Cadalig
